Agent Field Guide How the hunt works — tap to open

Finding a drop

Scan the QR code on a card with your phone. It opens the transmission: the scrambled text, and a hint telling you which cipher was used.

Leave the card where you found it. Taking one ends the hunt for everyone behind you, and the Syndicate notices.

Breaking the code

The hint names the method. Caesar shifts every letter the same distance down the alphabet. Atbash flips the alphabet end to end, so A becomes Z. Others are harder and are worth more.

Work it out on paper. Decoded, the message is a history question.

Answering

You get a limited number of attempts, and the card tells you how many. Spend them carefully, because they do not come back.

Keep it short

A few key words is what the system is looking for. A long sentence will be marked wrong even when the history in it is right. Spelling counts.

Every card can only be claimed a set number of times. Get there late and you may find it already taken.

Your codename

You were given one when you joined, and you cannot pick it. On the rankings, other agents see only the codename. Your teacher sees both, so your standing stays private from the room while your work still counts.

Coins and rankings

A correct answer pays coins, and harder ciphers pay more. Your total puts you on your section's rankings. Your teacher decides what coins are worth beyond that.

Rules of the hunt

  • Leave every card where you find it.
  • Never join or answer under another agent's name. It burns their attempts, and it is the fastest way to lose your own standing.
  • Answers are yours alone. Passing them around ends the hunt early for everybody, including you.
  • Pages meant for your teacher are watched. Trying doors that are not yours gets logged, and the log has your codename on it.
